5 Things to Look For When Buying a Violin…

When you’re buying any musical instrument you need to be sure that it’s right for you. And not just that, you want to know that you aren’t buying something that will fall apart after 5 seconds of playing it or that it sounds so bad you never want to practice again. So here’s 5 things to look for when buying a Violin…

  1. Quality, well fitting bridge. Preferably a Despiau or Aubert.
  2. The instrument has upgraded strings (not factory strings).
  3. On student Violins a quality tailpiece with fine tuners is supplied.
  4. The pegs are lubricated and move smoothly but still hold the string pitch.
  5. The nut is shaped correctly and not too high from the fingerboard.

Don’t forget that it always pays off to go and try out the violin before buying too. That way you will get the feel and tone of it before splashing out.
